Gyre vs Playout: frequently asked questions

What happens to a 24/7 YouTube stream after 12 hours?+

Gyre does nothing at 12 hours: no restart and no new broadcast. Our longest has run that way since February 2022, and our most-watched single stream has passed 230M views. Playout offers an optional new broadcast every 11 hours on paid plans, off until you turn it on, because YouTube may not save a recording longer than 12 hours. With it on, each part becomes a separate video.

Is Gyre more expensive than Playout?+

Not at the same quality. At 1080p60, Gyre costs $18.56 per stream on Start+ billed annually, against $47.33 on Playout, which is priced per stream with 60fps as an add-on. Playout is lower for a single stream: $47.33 at 1080p60 billed yearly, and its Creator plan costs $19 a month billed yearly at 1080p30, without 60fps or automatic scheduling.

Is Playout a YouTube verified encoder?+

Playout isn't on YouTube's Live verified encoders list as of November 2, 2026, and its own pages don't mention the status. Gyre is on the list.

Is Gyre a YouTube-verified encoder?+

Yes. Gyre is a YouTube Live verified encoder, on YouTube's official list, linked in the sources below.

Can I stream to several platforms at once?+

Yes, with one stream slot per platform, each with its own playlist and schedule. Gyre streams to 8 platforms: YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram, X, Kick, Telegram and Mixcloud. YouTube allows nonstop live streams, while Facebook and Instagram cap them at 8 and 4 hours, so one live there runs up to that limit.

Can I test Playout's 24/7 streaming for free?+

Only in short sessions. Playout's free plan streams up to 2 hours at a time, in 1080p30 with a watermark, and its paid plans have no trial. Gyre's trial gives you 7 full days, 168 hours of continuous Full HD streaming, with playlists and the scheduler.

What happens if my stream drops on Gyre?+

In 24/7 mode, if the platform's receiving server closes the connection, we reconnect within 1–2 seconds in our tests, so your broadcast keeps going. Every customer streams from their own isolated server, and we run at 99.9% uptime.

Does the Gyre trial require a credit card?+

Yes. Why we ask for a card: a non-stop stream needs a real server. Nothing is charged today. The trial runs one Full HD stream, with playlists, the scheduler and a Gyre watermark. After day 7 it converts to Start+, four Full HD streams for $99 a month. Cancel any time before day 7, or pick another plan yourself. Streamed under 10 hours and forgot to cancel? Request a refund within 14 days, minus payment fees.
